Three Wonderful Days with My New Sails!

I only got to enjoy my new sails for three days before an injured wrist kept me off the water. Now on Thanksgiving break in Kansas, I hope to be fully recovered before returning to Maui Thursday.
I could defiantly tell the difference with my new sails, mostly pushing to be more "radical" as my German friend would say. I was charging harder on the waves and ended up scoring my 5th Kuau point for the year. This resent point has put me again in the lead, this time tying with Dean of Canada.
Kansas is cold, 32 degrees for our Thanksgiving Day 5K run. brrrr!

New Ezzy Sails!!

Today was miserable raining all day. Then the post man delivered my new sails! Yeah! What a great day! Three new sails; 4.7m, 4.2m, and 3.7m. Also three new masts as well! I have never had my own brand new sails. How exciting! I cant stop smiling!

Harbor to Harbor

Saturday I ran the Harbor to Harbor, a 10 mile run from Kihei Boat Launch to Maalea. Fun cross training!

Catapult!

Today was straight off shore conditions. There were some rather large sets coming in but I thought the hardest part of today was the wind direction. It took me the whole session to figure out how to stay up wind, and even then, I was struggling. The highlight of the day was getting catapulted into my mast. That's always fun :) I have a huge bruise across my side the shape of the mast.

Sailing with an Olympian

Yesterday the wind was very light and I almost didn't even go out but I was inspired by some Canadian Olympic Windsurfers I had met the night before who go out in all sorts of non-existent wind. I was out for quite a while just bobbing along, trying to catch the smallish waves that were coming through when I heard something very quickly coming up behind me. When I turned around, it was Kevin Stittle, on his race gear, a 9.5 meter sail and 22oL board. He was cruising up from Kanaha. That's a long ways up wind! I would love to try this gear sometime and am so inspired by people who can windsurf for their job. Very cool!

Self-Rescue

Yesterday the waves were about the same size, some logo-high sets coming through. I ended up sailing at Kuau again because it is my favorite spot. I had fun for a while until I got caught up in a wave and lost my gear near the channel. The current must have been extra strong because I didnt catch up to it until Tavarez. Quite the swim! When I finally got it I was determined not to score another point so I patiently waited and worked my way back through the waves and back up to Kuau. Go me! :)

80L OES Wave Pro

Yesterday I went to the OES cannery with Russ and he remembered a board that I could use. It is a 80 L Wave Pro and I loved it. I went to Kuau and it took me a while to get the balance of it but after a short while, it was amazing! Maybe because it is actually meant for waves is why I was having such a better time than my standard board. Cant wait to give it another ride today. The waves are supposed to be double the size so I may be heading to Lowers, which would be a perfect place to see if I really like the board.

Short Session, Long Waves

Yesterday before work I was able to get out at Kanaha. It was big! I only had a short time to sail but I was on the 75 L quad OES and was loving it! I felt like I could put the board anywhere I wanted on the wave and never spun out. Lowers is sure fun when its big, long wave rides!
